Getting started

JobPilot comes in two parts. The dashboard is a website where your profile, resumes, and applications live. The agent runs on your computer and does the searching and applying. Plan on about ten minutes to set both up.

What you need

• A Claude Code or Codex subscription. The agent runs on it, so you don't need an API key.
• A computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux.
• Node.js 22 or newer. The agent uses it to control the browser and talk to JobPilot.

1. Install the plugin

The install page has the commands for both providers with copy buttons. In Claude Code, run:

2. Run setup

Open a new session and run setup. In Claude Code that's /jobpilot:setup; in Codex it's $setup.

Setup installs a small program called the terminal host, starts the agent, and opens the dashboard in your browser. You can run it again later. If the host is already installed, setup updates it to the newest version.

After this, the agent shows up in the dock, the terminal panel on the right side of the dashboard. You can watch it work there and switch between Claude Code and Codex. If the host ever stops working, the install page has a one-line command that reinstalls it.

The next time you want to start the agent, it depends on your system:

• Windows: press Start agent in the dock. The button works after the agent has run at least once, because that first run registers a jobpilot:// link with Windows.
• macOS and Linux: there's no button. Either run setup again in Claude Code or Codex, or type jobpilot in a terminal.

Each time it starts, the agent checks for a new release and updates itself first.

Claude Code starts on the latest Sonnet model and Codex on GPT 6 Luna. You can pick a bigger model, but it will use up your weekly limit much faster and won't send any more applications. The FAQ explains why.

3. Create your account

Go to jobpilot.suxrobgm.net, sign up, and confirm your email. Onboarding then has three steps.

1. Resume. Upload your resume as a PDF. The agent reads it and fills in your work history, education, skills, and contact details. You can watch this in the dock; it takes a minute or two. If the agent isn't running (say you're on your phone), the file is saved and you can fill in the details yourself.
2. Personal. Your name, email, phone, links, and city are copied from the resume into any profile field you left blank. Anything you already typed stays as it is. Look it over, fix what's wrong, and press Save & continue. Application forms are filled from this profile, while job scoring and tailoring use the resume.
3. Connect agent. This checks that the terminal host from step 2 is running. If it isn't, the install commands are shown again. Press Finish to open your workspace.

You can change all of this later under Settings.

While you're going through onboarding, the agent also writes an improved version of your resume, with a tighter summary and stronger bullet points. You'll find it on the resume page under Documents, as a card showing how many changes it suggests. Press Review to compare the old and new text side by side, then Apply rewrite or Discard. Your original PDF is kept as it is, so Re-extract from PDF always gets the original text back.

Make sure the address on your profile matches the one on your resume. Recruiters see the resume, but application forms and cover letters use your profile. The resume page warns you when the two don't match.

4. Run your first campaign

From now on you work from the dashboard. Setup is the only command you type.

For your first campaign, search without applying so you can see how the agent scores jobs. Press New campaign, describe the job you want, and pick a board. The mode starts on Auto-apply, so change it to Search only. The agent searches the board, scores each job against your resume, and saves the matches. Look through the list and approve the jobs you want to apply to.

Once the scores look right to you, keep the mode on Auto-apply. The agent then searches, scores, and applies to one job at a time. It stops when it runs out of jobs, when you pause it, or when it reaches the application limit you set under Settings → Profile.

Each application shows up in your workspace, where you can follow it from applied to offer.

If you'd rather not run campaigns one at a time, turn on the Pilot. It creates its own searches from your goals, applies up to a daily limit, handles replies, and asks you only when it needs a decision, like how to answer a salary question. Read The Pilot next.
